Post PC & Internet

Guess what, the future is to the left...

The computer are in our homes...including the kitchen!

Some kitchen information appliances:
Microwave oven computer from NCR's knowledge lab.
icebox from CMI.

And my own kitchen with a Toshiba Equium 2000.

See also Kitchengate, live test with intelligent refrigerators.

In the future we will likely see more than Digital Television. It holds promises of intelligent appliances, wireless communication pads, personal digital assistants, multimedia cars, communicating toys, etc.

WebPad from National Semiconductor
The StoryBox
Kids PDA from Cybiko
Barcode scanner from Connectthings

Cyberpen, used by ISO in Denmark
GM's car computer network OnStar
The iRobot
My Real Baby from Hasbro
Digital TV recorder from Tivo
Netradio from Kerbango
Itsy platform from Compaq

The development of connecting computers in a big network (Internet) is currently turned towards connecting computers in separate network (islands).

As I see it, right now the (IT) industry is moving away from Internet towards isolated networks.

One healty opposite force is sourced by Open-IP.

The Human side

We (humans) are not alone anymore...a few examples:

  • Olga from Centre for Speech Technology, KTH, Stockholm
  • Toyspot, demo from Netsage, now merged with Finali

BotSpot have more examples, see also:

Conclusions

Nobody wanted ATMs in the 70-ies, they wanted real people...
