The Internet as multimedia [top]
Search tools will become gold mines [top]There are, just like in many other places, many different ways to find your way. Below I will describe some of them. Even though I believe that this, like many other things in Cyberspace, will change quickly. Catalogues [top]Naturally there are catalogues of the Internet. As well as printed as electronic ones. Examples of catalogues in the latter sense is:
Search engines [top]Further more there are something called search engines or search robots. They seek through the Internet and make indexes of information. They can be divided into individual search engines:
and meta-search engines respectively:
It works for example to seek at Alta Vista
for Carlson
Investment Management Agents [top]Another way of finding things is through agents, more or less artificial ones. There are two groups of agents; seeking agents and filtering agents. The main point is that an agent knows his master and his needs. The consulting firm Andersen Consulting have developed BargainFinder Agent. It seeks its ways through a number of record shops at the Internet and then sort the answers according to the cost of the records. Andersen Consulting is at this moment also trying out an agent which will suggest sites at the Internet which you specifically should enjoy - LifestyleFinder Agent. The agent at Firefly, at http://www.firefly.com/ is more intelligent. You can teach it things and it will teach you. Even this example deals with music. Here the agent can help you to come in contact with people with the same preferences of music that you have. Are you looking for computer equipment? Seek among hundreds of suppliers at Computer ESP at http://www.uvision.com/. MIT Media Lab (Software Agents Group) leads a couple of pioneer projects. Daniel Weld, Ph.D. from MIT Artificial Intelligence Lab is one of the founders of the company Netbot and their agent Jango- www.jango.com.which attracts much attention. Who cares about Cyber law? [top]Many well-established thoughts, rules and paragraphs will collapse like a house of cards when information is published on the Internet. Is it legally accepted to use links to other companies at your web site? Can you claim that you have the right to a certain domain?
